Anti-Defamation League Launches Online Anti-Semitism Tracking Tool

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) officially launched an online Tracker of Anti-Semitic incidents – the ADL Tracker.  This tracker was developed in response to the increased reporting of anti-Semitic incidents and hate crimes in the U.S.  The searchable database of incidents will be regularly updated with the most recent information available on acts of hate against Jews anywhere in the United States.

The ADL Tracker offers a compilation of recent cases of anti-Semitic vandalism, harassment and assaults reported to or detected by ADL. Incidents that meet their criteria are transferred to ADL’s H.E.A.T. Map, which provides comprehensive statistics on domestic instances of anti-Semitism, extremism, and terrorism, and allows users to drill down on the data by geographic location.

ADL uses various sources for gathering incident reports: Law enforcement, media reports, and reports submitted through ADL’s incident response form, as well as incidents reported directly to any of ADL’s 25 regional offices across the country.

“We are making all of our available data on anti-Semitic incidents available in as close to real-time as possible so that anyone can, at a glance, see the activity taking place around the country and in localities nearby,” said Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “With anti-Semitic incidents becoming more prevalent nationwide, it is essential that we provide immediate and reliable data to the public. This tool will enable the public to see that we are aware of and tracking anti-Semitic incidents. We urge members of the public to notify us immediately if something has happened that has not yet been reported.”

The incidents on the Tracker may be filtered both by state and by keyword. They include both criminal and non-criminal acts of anti-Jewish vandalism, harassment, and assault. The list is not exhaustive and incidents in the Tracker may be removed if they are determined not credible upon further investigation by ADL.

ADL’s Center on Extremism gathers and analyzes the anti-Semitic incidents. The data ultimately is compiled into ADL’s annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, which provides a more thorough analysis of the annual incident data and the trends it reveals.

ADL has a comprehensive approach to addressing anti-Semitic incidents and behavior, including educating youth to prevent incidents and working with law enforcement to apprehend the perpetrators. ADL works to enact laws to improve federal, state, and local prevention tactics and responses to anti-Semitic hate crimes and all forms of hate violence. ADL partners with law enforcement to raise awareness of extremist threats and train law enforcement professionals to recognize and disrupt potential threats.
