The Beguiled movie 2017

The Beguiled movie will be in theatres across the country starting June 30, 2017.

We were invited to attend the advanced screening of The Beguiled in Atlanta.

Love is Everything

The Beguiled is based on the novel by Thomas Cullinan and the screenplay by Albert Maltz and Grimes Grice.

Director and Screenwriter:              Sofia Coppola

Cast:                      Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice,

Addison Riecke, and Emma Howard

Running Time: 93 minutes

Rating:  R

The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.

We really enjoyed the movie!  I didn't realize that in addition to this movie being based on a book,  it is a remake of the 1971 film starring Clint Eastwood, Geraldine Page, and Elizabeth Hartman.  We found out that it was a remake as we were exiting the theatre after the film had ended and were walking behind two ladies that were excitedly talking about the original film and how they now have to go back and re-watch it to compare it to the new movie and how wonderful it was.  We completely agree with their views on the film and will now also take the time to watch the original movie.

I was surprised at the amount of hilarity sprinkled throughout the film given the darkness of the movie.  However, it made for a great reprieve from sitting on the edge of our seats during the rest of the time throughout the movie.  Colin Farrell did an outstanding job as did Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and really all of the actresses involved.

This movie should be added to your summer “must see” movie list!

We received complimentary tickets to attend the advanced screening.  This is no way impacted my review.
