Hack the Vax with the Meg Foundation!

All opinions expressed are my own.
I don't know anyone that actually enjoys getting a shot, do you? I literally can't stand the sight of a needle.
Sometimes I sit back and wonder about how I actually survived the miracle of having two children via c-section and all of the needles that I had to endure throughout my pregnancies and during the surgeries.
When I look back to the time that my husband and I started talking about having children, I realize that the precious miracle of bringing two wonderful children into this world was worth every needle poke and so much more.
To, this day, needles still make me anxious but in the end, I care more about the importance of my health and the importance of keeping others healthy than I do about getting shots so I endure the few seconds of the injection into my skin for the greater good.
Cue the corny needle jokes!
- I’d tell you a joke about a blunt needle but it’s pointless.
- I would tell you a joke about a needle in a haystack, but I don’t think you’d see the point.
- Good acupuncture is a jab well done.
All jokes aside, needle anxiety is real. Research shows that 25% of adults have really significant needle anxiety. If you are nervous about needles like I am, the Meg Foundation can put your mind at ease. Whether you are just “not a fan” of needles or if they strike terror in your heart, the Meg Foundation has resources for both children and adults that can ease your fears about getting a shot.
Action is literally the enemy of anxiety. Explore strategies at #HackTheVAX that could reduce your stress when getting the COVID-19 vaccine. They list advice on how to numb an area of your arm with over-the-counter topical anesthetic like Lidocaine cream, how to breathe to relax your body, ideas to get your focus on something other than the shot itself, and so much more.
There is no need to feel embarrassed if you are nervous or anxious about getting a shot. You can push through your needle fears like I am by making a plan when getting your shots. As with anything in life, having a plan helps you stay focused and achieve your overall objectives.
The Meg Foundation envisions and creates a more comfortable future where healthcare is free of unnecessary suffering, and everyone feels empowered when dealing with pain. Their website provides amazing scientific evidence that shows people who follow strategies and make a plan for their shot experience a better one than without a plan of action.
Protect yourself and all of us by not letting the fear of the freak out of getting a shot get in the way of your health decisions.
Please take time today and make a plan for which techniques work best for you from the Hack the Vax site and schedule your Covid-19 shot appointment. For best results, don't forget to take your getting-over-needle-fears plan with you to your shot appointment.
