All Hands and Hearts Smart Response Needs Volunteers in Puerto Rico
All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response is now accepting volunteer applications to help with recovery efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. In the fall of 2017, Hurricane Maria’s 155 mph violent winds severely impacted the island of Puerto Rico, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The island has yet to fully recover.

“It is the worst natural disaster on record in Puerto Rico and nearly four months later, the island still does not have power and potable water in many areas. As always, our team worked with local partners to carefully assess the damage and identify communities with the greatest need for help” noted Erik Dyson, C.E.O. of All Hands and Hearts. “Now that the situation on the ground has settled we will be helping the families, in the areas of Yabucoa and Barranquitas, in the cleanup process and be there alongside them on the long road to recovery.”
Four days into our program the volunteers have begun their work. Team leader Gabi takes a moment to grab a photo with a local homeowner.

All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response efficiently and effectively addresses the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters. By listening to local people, and deploying our unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, we rebuild safe, resilient schools, homes, and other community infrastructure.
The end of the day brings substantial exhaustion, but also substantial happiness from our homeowners and their volunteers. Moments like these are prime motivation for a hard day’s work.

It is devastating what happened to Puerto Rico. I love knowing people are volunteering their time to help rebuild Puerto Rico. These volunteers are angels. Thank you!

I love the idea of volunteering as a means to give back to society. Puerto Rico is finally being able to rebuild and people are settling into their new definition of normal. I have never heard of this volunteer group before tho, thanks for making us aware.

This is a great cause, it’s hard to imagine how people there have been living without power for all this time.

I have a friend who lives in Puerto Rico and it’s ridiculous how long it took for people to get the help they needed. I’m glad people are volunteering and working still!

When you hear the individual voices of the people affected by these devastations it is difficult to ignore. The volunteers in these areas are truly amazing for dropping their lives to support others.

Hope there are many people who are able to go down and help out. They were hit so very hard it will take awhile to recover.
Thanks for making it clear what people can do to help out. A group from our church were just there for a week and they were shocked by the devastation that is still there.

It makes my heart hurt to know that parts of PR still doesn’t have power or water. I watched something on Conan a month or two ago that went into the history of the relationship between the US and PR and I thought we absolutely need to be doing more to help.
