About Hot Topic
It all started in 1988. A ton of teen retail accessory stores littered the malls, but there weren't any cool, music-inspired accessory destinations for both guys and girls. Enter Hot Topic. As 1990 rolled around, adding apparel seemed like a no-brainer, so we brought in the ultimate music fan essential: band T-shirts. Customers flipped when they walked into Hot Topic stores and saw Bauhaus, The Cure, TSOL, and Depeche Mode rock tees. Within a year, we offered about 50 different band titles, along with rock-inspired clothing lines like Lip Service and Serious. As we continued to expand, we discovered that our customers were also drawn to the underground cartoon, cult movie, and comic book scenes, so we brought the world of South Park, Care Bears, Superman, SpongeBob, and tons of other pop icons right to them! Today, Hot Topic offers band-related apparel and accessories, licensed merchandise, and fashion apparel and accessories, which you can find at more than 600 stores (check out our store locator to find the location nearest you!) and online at www.hottopic.com. Nearly 25 years since our founding, you can still feel the passion for music and pop culture in everything we do: in our stores, at HQ, in our distribution centers, and in their products. Hot Topic is a part of Hot Topic, Inc., based in Los Angeles, California.

Hot Topic reminds me so much of my early teenage years. I totally forgot they are still around – and their style actually hasn’t changed much!
Hot topic clothes are so comfortable. Good to know that the Hot topic is also keen on social responsibilities.
They look really cool and yeah, hot. Teenagers would still love to have this kind of stuff nowadays. 🙂
My kids always get jealous of anyone who doesn’t have to wear uniform to school. I really do wish more UK schools would allow children the freedom to choose their own outfits rather than them having to look like blumming sheep!
It so hilarious that Hot Topic is still a “thing”. That’s where all the edgy kids shopped back when I was in school!
Hot topic is indeed hot. It’s really nice that under one roof, you can get almost everything for the back-to-school season! Those jeans and sneakers would come in so handy for me too- going back to college.
I’m a MS & HS teacher and am currently getting ready to go back to school myself! I remember being a teenager and spending hours browsing Hot Topic and dancing to their punk rock playlist. I recently found out that they’re owned by the same people as Torrid, which I LOVE going to for work clothes.
Excluding University, all schools had uniforms and even weekly hairstyles for girls so there was no need to spend $$ on back-to-school clothes that kids just want for vanity anyway. It’s always the brand or trendy shoes/clothes and not the no-name ones that are just a quality.
I can’t believe Hot Topic is still around – that’s where I went back to school shopping! I had no idea that they had that kind of corporate social responsibility practice in place but it’s nice to know.
I love the HOT TOPIC clothes! It’s perfect as casual wear! Hope to check it out more!
Pretty much all through high school and well into university, I got a large chunk of my wardrobe at Hot Topic. There was nothing I preferred more than a band tee and ripped jeans!
Great to know about a company that not only provide quality shirts, but practice social responsibility and look after the welfare of their employees as well.
I love band tees, they never go out of style. It’s my typical lazy day outfit. But despite it being simply a shirt, it makes a statement. I’m a dentist–often in scrubs and my white coat, so when I want to be comfortable, I’d choose a nice tee.
Unfortunately, in the UK we have a school uniform so a lot of my students wouldn’t be able to wear this to school but I can imagine this being handy for schools that don’t have a specific dress code.
Even my grown kids wander into this store when we are at the mall. It is definitely a younger person’s fave!
I remember Hot Topic from years back. They are still in our local mall, my oldest son has gotten several band tees there and some decent deals on jeans.
