Set Realistic Goals

The most important way to make sure you can meet your 2022 goals is to make them realistic. We aren't saying you shouldn't be ambitious, but you should make sure you aren't putting unreasonable pressure on yourself.

For example, if your goal is to save money in the New Year, decide on an amount that is a reasonable portion of your yearly salary. If you make $50,000 per year, you probably shouldn't plan on saving $25,000. How to Set Realistic Goals article image 3

Set Short-Term and Long-Term Goals

Breaking your goals down into smaller parts is essential, especially if your goals are big. Ambitious long-term goals usually contain a series of smaller goals within them.

If you're planning on moving across the country this year, you should break that goal down into smaller ones such as: saving a specific amount of money, finding a new job, securing a new home, etc. Be Flexible image

Keep Your Timetable Flexible

Setting up a timetable for your goals is a good idea, but be careful not to make yours too rigid. Instead of picking an exact date by which you need to meet your goal, pick a range of acceptable dates.

For instance, if you plan to plan to travel in 2022, you can set the goal that you want to travel sometime in August. That way, you have some wiggle room to adjust your plans based on your schedule. Take care of yourself image

Take Good Care of Yourself

The most common New Year's resolutions are about getting in shape. Getting healthier is a great resolution to make, but it is also essential to achieving any other goals you may have.

When you feel good physically, you're more likely to be motivated and productive. Eating well and getting regular exercise will help you ward off illness and stay on track to meet your goals.

Set Goals With Other People

When you want to make a positive lifestyle change, it can help to have a community of like-minded people around you. If you and your friends share a common goal, resolve to help each other strive for it!

Joining group programs such as fitness glasses can be another great way to grow alongside other people.

Great tips! I agree, we need long and short goals and work on them. Thank you for sharing!

  • Another year to celebrate and set realistic goals. I want to give myself a deadline with my goals to keep myself accountable.

  • I think so many of us set resolutions but without a plan in place or without thinking through realistic expectations. This is a good way to set goals.

  • I always make sure that it is time bound and also attainable. It wouldn’t be realistic without these two. I also revisit it from time to time so I can track my goals.

  • For me what works is setting goals that are as specific and detailed as possible within a timetable. This way I know exactly what the steps I need to take, when and how to take them, to achieve my goal. It’s more work for me in the beginning but saves a lot of time down the line and keeps me focused on what I need to get done every step of the way.

  • This is so inspiring! I always set my goals and this blog is more helpful to reach my goals.

  • Great tips. I’m trying to not overcomplicate the year and I’ve found that setting easier goals that I”ll actually do helps.
