Magazine Launch Atlanta with T-Boz of TLC
In Atlanta, Georgia, you never know who might cross your path. The city is home to numerous celebrities, many of whom reside within the metro area or have homes here. While attending Luxury Magazine's 2004 cocktail party at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta hotel, we had the unexpected pleasure of running into Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins from the iconic R&B-hip hop girl group TLC. She exuded both beauty and approachability, reflecting the down-to-earth nature often found in Atlanta's celebrity community.
TLC, formed in Atlanta in 1991, enjoyed a highly successful career through the early 2000s. Excitement is building among fans for the upcoming 2017 TLC album, which will feature the remaining members Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins.
To fund the project, TLC launched a Kickstarter campaign in January 2015, seeking support from their dedicated fanbase. Remarkably, within 48 hours, donations surpassed the original goal of $150,000, reaching an impressive $430,255. Notable contributions came from fellow musicians, including Katy Perry, Bette Midler, Soulja Boy, New Kids On the Block (NKOTB), and Justin Timberlake.
Anticipation is high for the album, which will also pay tribute to the group's third member, Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes, who tragically passed away in a car accident in Honduras in 2002. Fans fondly remember the emotional day of her funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, GA, where thousands gathered to bid farewell to the talented and beautiful artist whose life ended too soon. Despite her absence, friends and fans will continue to honor her memory through the timeless music TLC created together.
Look forward to the release of TLC's new album scheduled for late June 2017.
