My City, Four Ways Presented by Essence and Ford in Atlanta

Essence, the number one media company dedicated to African-American women, returned to Atlanta with their “My City, Four Ways” culture festival on Saturday, September 23 to celebrate Atlanta's most notable tastemakers, innovators, and leaders.

Foodie Tour

Presented by Ford, “My City, Four Ways – Atlanta” assembled a mix of local African-American influencers, creatives, and personalities producing an unparalleled Atlanta culture guide.  The event focused on the perspectives of four young dynamic African-American influencers – across music, art, fashion, and food  – representing the city’s social and cultural landscapes today.

“My City, Four Ways” was hosted by comedian and talk show –  Loni Love.  As always, Loni kept the crowd entertained with her upbeat sense of humor in addition to encouraging the audience to dance to old-school R&B songs.  Music was provided by DJ Teknology.

The culture festival featured the following:

  • Surprise musical performance by R&B artist Ginuwine
  • Pop-up fashion shops from local designers
  • Style and Fashion conversations with celebrity Stylist June Ambrose, The Artist Melissa Mitchell and designer and Project Runway season 16 contestant – Kenya Freeman, and Atlanta Designer Charlene Dunbar.
  • Curated tasting experience by Chef Willy and Grammy-nominated Kelis

I knew that Kelis liked to cook – but I did not know that she took a cordon bleu course in 2008 and is now a qualified chef!  Her oxtail appetizers with beets were amazing.

Kelis has written her first cookbook – “My Life On a Plate” – and it is available in stores now.  The cookbook is a collection of her favorite recipes.  I just ordered a copy on Amazon and can't wait to try out some of her recipes as the food she prepared for the event was delicious!

Chef Willy Wallace also prepared tasty appetizers for the event.  Additionally, he shared his path to success with the audience and gave an extremely important tip on how to grow your business and to ensure success – invest in your business.  Utilize a portion of the money you are making from your business and spend on ways to become more knowledgeable in your craft (additional training or classes) and/or in opportunities that will ultimately benefit your business in the long run – it will pay off.

My Ford City test drive

The featured highlight of the “My City, Four Ways” event was the “Ride & Drive” of the latest lineup of Ford vehicles including Mustang and Fusion.  As you can see, I opted for the Mustang.
