Peter Fonda at GCAPP Fundraiser

Attending GCAPP's annual fundraiser was a remarkable experience, especially since I had the privilege of meeting actor Peter Fonda. He was there in support of his sister, Jane Fonda, the founder of GCAPP (Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential).

The mission of GCAPP is to enhance the overall health and well-being of young people in Georgia, paving the way for a more empowered future for all. Their core belief revolves around ensuring that every child is entitled to a secure and healthy adolescence marked by hope, respect, and the opportunity for a productive future.

Originally established in 1995 as the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, GCAPP responded to the alarming teen birth rate in Georgia, which was then the highest in the nation. Today, thanks to their efforts, that rate has seen a significant decline of over 60%. Collaborating with school districts, health educators, and nearly 200 youth-serving organizations statewide, GCAPP reaches over 40,000 young individuals annually with age-appropriate, medically accurate sex education.

In 2012, GCAPP expanded its mission and changed its name to include a broader focus on healthy relationships, physical activity, and nutrition. At the heart of their work lies the commitment to empowering young people with information and motivation to enhance their overall health and well-being, enabling them to make informed and healthy lifestyle choices. This empowerment, they believe, taps into the youths' inherent power, potential, and hope for a successful future.
