About The Beguiled
The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.
We really enjoyed the movie! I didn't realize that in addition to this movie being based on a book, it is a remake of the 1971 film starring Clint Eastwood, Geraldine Page, and Elizabeth Hartman. We found out that it was a remake as we were exiting the theatre after the film had ended and were walking behind two ladies that were excitedly talking about the original film and how they now have to go back and re-watch it to compare it to the new movie and how wonderful it was. We completely agree with their views on the film and will now also take the time to watch the original movie.
I was surprised at the amount of hilarity sprinkled throughout the film given the darkness of the movie. However, it made for a great reprieve from sitting on the edge of our seats during the rest of the time throughout the movie. Colin Farrell did an outstanding job as did Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and really all of the actresses involved.
We received complimentary tickets to attend the advanced screening. This is no way impacted my review.
