Lexus 2020 RX 450h F Sport is the Leading Luxury SUV

The Lexus 2020 RX 450h F Sport is the leading luxury SUV in the United States. It's also one of the top luxury hybrid SUVs known for its exceptional quality, comfort, and consistency. The changes made to the 2020 RX 450h are significant enough to keep it among the leading luxury vehicles available. Recently, while attending the Girls Guide to Cars Conference in Atlanta, we had the opportunity to test drive the Lexus 2020 RX 450h F Sport and explore all of its features.

Reinvigorated and Refined

The designers of the Lexus vehicle started with the signature grille, which is a well-known symbol of the brand and serves as the distinctive “face” of the car. They created an elaborate design based on an L-motif, where each individual block has a different shape and angle to create a unique form that balances strength with elegance. To ensure a smooth visual flow, the hand-drawn angles of the grille surround are also echoed at each corner of the bumper.

Responsive Steering and Multimedia Options

The Lexus RX boasts highly responsive steering and advanced multimedia options that enable seamless integration with smartphones and touchscreens. Its upgraded interior and exterior features enhance the appeal of this luxurious crossover, making it a top choice for discerning Lexus customers who value both style and function.

Android and Apple CarPlay Auto Integration

In 2020, the RX line of cars was upgraded with the Android Auto integration, which is an addition to the already existing in-car connected technology applications from Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa. This means that drivers and passengers can easily interact with their smart devices through familiar on-screen apps on the optional 12.3-inch touchscreen or standard 8-inch touchscreen that comes with all 2020 RX, RXh, RXL, and RXhL models.

Interior

The Lexus RX boasts a comfortable and car-like interior. The 2020 model year brings some upgrades to the SUV, including paddle shifters and touch capability for both the 8.0-inch and 12.3-inch infotainment screens. The driver controls have also been improved, with the optional 12.3-inch screen now positioned 5.4 inches closer to the driver and can be used as a touchscreen in addition to the standard touchpad control. The voice control system has been upgraded and is now able to recognize a wider range of phrases. The RX also offers two new seating positions for the third row, and available captain's chairs for the second row, resulting in increased seating flexibility.

Advanced Safety for Peace of Mind

The 2020 Lexus RX comes equipped with a suite of advanced safety features, including Lexus Safety System+ 2.0. Additionally, the vehicle also includes a 3-year Lexus Enform Safety Connect and a 10-year Enform Service Connect. The Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 adds daytime bicyclist detection and low-light pedestrian detection along with Road Sign Assist (RSA) and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA). These features are designed to expand the scenarios in which the RX can provide additional safety to the driver and passengers.

The Pre-Collision System has been enhanced to detect a preceding bicyclist, which is in addition to its previous capability to detect a preceding vehicle or pedestrian. Furthermore, the PCS has been improved to detect a preceding pedestrian in certain low-light situations. This is achieved by increasing the camera’s sensitivity and dynamic range.

Road Sign Assist (RSA) displays certain road sign information in the instrument panel. The Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) system detects visible lane markings, which helps determine the lane position and centers the vehicle in the lane when working in conjunction with the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. If road markings are not detected, LTA can follow the car ahead of it in certain conditions.

Hybrids Bring The Best of Both Worlds

Lexus was the first luxury car manufacturer to introduce a hybrid vehicle more than a decade ago. They launched a gas/electric version of the RX luxury-utility vehicle. The RX 450h and RX 450hL are still popular and serve as a constant reminder of Lexus' hybrid leadership. They offer a combined system horsepower of 308 for powerful performance and impressive EPA-estimated 30 combined MPG for RXh and an EPA estimated 29 combined MPG on RXhL. 

The Lexus Hybrid Drive system pairs the D4-S fuel injection 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with two high-torque electric drive motor-generators for strong acceleration and passing performance. The all-weather drive system does not use transfer gears and a driveshaft to the rear wheels. Instead, it employs a second, independent electric motor to drive the rear wheels when needed, which helps to maintain optimal traction.

Trunk Space

I love one of the features of the RX, which is its ample cargo space. With the rear seats up, it offers 18 cubic feet of space, which expands to 55.9 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. This is more than enough to fit all my boxes, suitcases, and even my kids' sporting equipment.
